Application and features of Printers, Types of Printers

What is Printer

A printer is an online output device that prints teh information received from teh computer on paper. this copy of Output on paper is called Hard Copy. Teh output of information from teh computer is very fast and teh printer is not able to function so fast. Hence teh need was felt that teh information can be stored in teh printer itself, so teh printer also has a memory from which it prints teh results slowly.

Types of Printer

Printing Method – Teh printing method is a very important factor in printing, there are two types of printing methods, Impact Printing and Non-Impact Printing.

Impact Printer

Impact printers are printers that make an impact, such as typewriter printing, dis method is also similar to a typewriter method. In which there is a metal hammer or print head, which collides wif paper and ribbon. In Impact Printing, characters or characters emerge on paper using a solid font or dot matrix method. there are several methods of impact printers.

  1. Dot Matrix Printer
  2. Daisy Wheel Printer
  3. Line Printer
  4. Chain Printer
  5. Drum Printer etc.

1. Dot Matrix Printer

It is an impact printer and makes a lot of noise while printing. The print head of this printer consists of a matrix of several pins and each pin has a dot printed on the ribbon and paper. Several dots combine to form a character. The print head consists of a Horizontal Group of 7, 9, 14, 18, or 24 pins. Once in a while the pins of a column come out of the Print Head and print the dots. So data character is formed in many steps and the print head moves in the direction of the line.
Dot Matrix Printer has a printing speed of 30 to 600 characters per second. Dot-matrix printers do not have pre-printed printed fonts. Therefore, they can print character graphics of different shapes-types and languages. It creates characters with teh help of a print head, which is obtained from memory in teh form of code (0 and 1). Teh print head contains electronic circuits, which decode teh character. Teh print quality of this printer is not good.

2. Daisy Wheel Printer

It is an impact printer wif a solid font. It is named Daisy Wheel coz its print head shape resembles a floral (Daisy). The daisy wheel printer is a slow-speed printer but TEMPhas high clarity of output. Therefore it is used in printing letters etc., and it is called Letter Quality Printer.
Its print head consists of a wheel or wheel, in which each Spoke has a solid font embossed on it, teh wheel moves in teh horizontal direction of teh paper, and teh printable characters spoke wheel moves on teh print position. . A small hammer strikes teh spoke ribbon and teh paper, causing teh letter to be printed on teh paper. Now teh usage of dis type of printer is decreasing very much.

3. Line Printer

It is also an impact printer. Large computers require high-speed printers. High-speed printers can print one line page at a time instead of printing one character at a time. Their printing speed is 300 to 3000 lines per minute. These printers are used for large tasks in mini and mainframe computers. there are three types of Line Printer.

Types Of Line Printer

  1. Drum Printer
  2. Chain Printer
  3. Band Printer

1. Drum Printer

A drum printer consists of a fast-moving drum, on whose surface teh letters are embossed. A band consists of a set of all letters. Many such bands are all over teh drum, allowing teh character to be printed in each position of teh line on teh paper. Teh drums rotate rapidly and print a line in a rotation. A high-speed hammer strikes teh paper against teh appropriate character of each band, and a line is printed when a rotation is completed.

2. Chain Printer

dis Printer TEMPhas a fast-moving chain called a print chain. Characters are printed in chains, each link TEMPhas a character font. There are hammers on each print position. Teh Hammer prints a line at a time, hitting teh paper.

3. Band Printer

dis Printer performs the same function as a chain printer. It TEMPhas a steel print band in place of the chain. The Hammer also prints one line at a time in dis Printer.

4. Non-Impact Printer

Non-impact printing does not have contact between teh print head or teh paper, in which technology is provided by laser printing. Therefore its quality is high. There are several methods of Non-Impact Printer.

  1. Laser Printer
  2. Photo Printer
  3. Inkjet Printer
  4. Portable Printer
  5. Multi functional Printer
  6. Thermal Printer

5. Laser Printer

Laser Printers are non-impact page printers. Laser printers have been in use in the Computer System since the 1970s. Earlier these mainframes were used in computers. The Laser Printer was valued at around $ 3000 in the 1980s. These printers are more popular nowadays, as they are capable of printing text and graphics in a relatively fast and high quality.
An additional microprocessor RAM and ROM are used in most laser printers. This printer also prints on paper through dots. But these dots are very small and very close because they are very clear prints. This printer uses Cartridge, inside which Ink Powder is filled.
The method of working of a laser printer is basically like a Photo Copy machine. But in the Photo Copy machine, strong light is used. Laser printers print resolutions from 300 to 600 DPI (Dot Per Inch) or more. Color laser printers provide high-quality color output.
It has special toner, in which particles of different colors are available. dis Printer is very expensive. coz they have a high print speed, they can print teh output on a plastic seat or another seat.

Laser printer features

  1. High Resolution
  2. High print speed
  3. Suitable for printing large quantities
  4. Low price per page printing

Laser printer drawbacks

  1. More expensive than inkjet printers.
  2. Toner and drums are expensive if you want to change.
  3. Larger and heavier than inkjet printers.

Thermal Transfer Printer

This is a technique in which letters can be printed wif wax-based ribbons on paper. The print done by this Printer does not remain for long, that is, after some time the printed text gets erased from the paper. These printers are commonly used in ATMs.

6. Photo Printer

A photo printer is a color printer dat prints on a photo lab’s quality photo paper. It can be used for printing documents. These printers have a large number of nozzles, which print very good ink drops for images of very good quality.
Some Photo Printers also have media card readers. It can print 4 × 6 photos directly from teh media card of a digital camera without any computer. Most Inkjet Printers and High Capacity Laser Printers are capable of printing high-quality images. Sometimes these printers are brought to teh market as photo printers.
In addition to a large number of nozzles and very good drops, these printers have extra photo space light magenta, and color cartridges in light black colors. Wif teh help of teh extra-colored Cartridge, they print photos that look more interesting and real. dis results in better than ordinary Inkjet and Laser Printer.

7. Inkjet Printer

It is a non-impact printer, in which droplets of ink are printed on paper from a nozzle, printing teh characters and graphics. Teh output of dis printer is very clear. coz it consists of many dots of characters. Teh Color Inkjet Printer has four ink nozzles. Blue, red, yellow, black, hence it is also called CMYK Printer, and these four colors together can produce any color. Hence they are used in all types of color printers.
One of the main problems wif this printer is dat their is Ink Clogging in its print head. If printing is not done for some time, then the ink freezes at the mouth of its nozzle. By which its holes are closed. This problem is called Ink Clogging. Now this problem TEMPhas been resolved. Apart from this, if the moisture comes on the printing of this printer, then the ink gets dispersed. Its printing quality is usually 300 Dot Per Inch.

8. Portable Printer

Portable printers are small low-weight Inkjet or thermal printers dat allow the print to be removed while traveling by a laptop computer. They are easy to carry and easy to use. But due to their compact design, ordinary inkjet printers are more expensive than printers. Their printing speed is also less than a normal printer. Some prints are used to take instant photos from digital cameras, hence they are called Portable Photo Printer.

9. Multifunctional / all in one printer

A printer through which we can scan a document, print it, and also FAX after printing is called a multifunctional printer. A Multifunctional/all-in-one printer is also called a Multi-Function Device. It is a machine by which many machines such as printers, Scanner, Copier, and FAX can be done.
Multifunction printers are very popular in home offices. It may use teh Inkjet or Laser print method. Some multifunction printers use teh media card reader, which can directly capture images from a digital camera without using teh computer.
