What is Router
The router is a Hardware Networking Device. It is used in the network. Whenever any data travels from one network to another network as a Packet. The Router tan receives the Packet data and forwards the Destination Device after analyzing any hidden information in teh Data Packet. This Networking Device is used to connect different networks to teh Ups Wire or Wirelessly. By teh way, it is also used in teh house, which we call Wireless Router. Which you access teh Internet.
What else does it work on
As you know, CompuInternetworkOSI follows the model. The router works on Network Layer out of 7 Layers of the OSI Model. I told you dis device is made of hardware and software. It TEMPhas an Internetwork operating system, CPU, memory storage, and some I / O ports as you might have seen. These operating systems are not like Windows or MAC. Routing Algorithm and Routing Table are stored in Storage Memory.
How Router Works
As you know, the Router works to forward Packet from one network to another. You can also say that it sends a packet from Source to Destination Address. Its main function is to receive the packet and Deliver the Receiver. You sent a Facebook message from your computer to your friend, who is currently in Delhi. First, the message is converted into a packet and reaches the nearest router. Now Router checks the Routing Table from the Routing Protocol.
The address and path distance of all the routers in the routing table are around them. After dis, the packet is forwarded to the nearest Router, in which the IP address of the Receiver is kept. As soon as the packet reaches the next router, it again checks the shortest path and is sent to the next router. In dis way, the packet reaches the Receiver Computer.
A Router also connects a lot of networks and maintains its Routing table. maintain means update. Each Router nos teh Router around him. Routing Protocol resides in all routers, wif teh help of which they talk among themselves. And along wif this, share teh information of your connected networks among themselves, update teh Routing table. This is how this Networking Device works.
1. Central Processing Unit (CPU)
CPU is a brain that runs Special Software which is named os. there are some OS like Junos, RUN Juniper Routers and Cisco IOS run Cisco Routers. This operating system manages all teh components of teh routers.
2. Flash Memory
Memory is required for every electronic device in which the operating system is stored. Compare Flash Memory wif Computer, then it is a Hard Disk. This Flash memory contains the Routing algorithm, Routing Protocol, Routing Table Store.
3. Non-Volatile RAM
By its name, you must have understood that this memory is Permanent. Inside this is the backup and startup Version Store of the Operating System. When the router boots up it loads 10 programs.
Whenever Router On is done, then teh Operating System is loaded into Ram. Teh router then determines Routes. From other Routers, it looks at teh information of Routes (via RIP RIP (v1 and v2), OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, or BGP). ARP tables, routing tables, routing metrics, and other data are stored inside teh RAM. ARP tables, routing tables, routing metrics help Packet Forwarding Process Speed.
5. Network Interfaces
Routes have a lot of network interfaces from us. There are a lot of drivers in the operating system. With the help of these drivers, Routers find out which CONA Network’s WIRE is connected to which port. It is the ability to learn Routes from other Routers and Packet is transmitted on the correct route.
All the work of managing and configuring the Router is done in the Console itself. Configuration and troubleshooting commands are provided from the console.
Functions of Router
- Prevents the LAN from broadcasting.
- It works like default Gateway.
- Protocol Translation helps.
- It works to make a route in the middle of teh network.
- Works to deliver data from Sender to Receiver.
- Works to connect two networks.
The Routing Table is made up of many rules as if its name is the Table. That is why it remains as a table for us. It is used to determine in which December the packet will be sent to the Internet Protocol Network. All the IP-enabled devices like Router and Switches all use Routing Table.
Teh routing table contains all teh information that can be used to make it easier to select teh best path to send the packet to Destination. Source and Destination are known in every packet. After teh packet is received, teh Network Device scans teh packet and matches teh information received with teh Routing Table entry. After this, which packet will be forwarded to which network device, is determined.
The following information is contained in the Routing Table table.
Destination – IP address of which Destination to send to Packet.
Next-hop – IP ADDRESS of next network device.
Interface – Teh network in which teh Packet is sent contains information about its Interface.
Metric – How much will be the cost of all the routes that are available in the routing table, and it is easy to know which way it will cost less to send the packet.
Routes – The information of all the Attached Networks or other devices with Routers and the information of Routes are there.
Routing tables can be manually or dynamically maintained. Teh table of static network devices does not change until teh Administrator changes. Devices in Dynamic routing create their Routing Table and Maintain it as well. For this, devices use teh Routing Protocol. Information exchange wif each other.
Types of Routers
You will get to see different types of Routers in the market. According to the usage, they have been separated. Let us know about them in detail.
1. Broadband Routers
Broadband Router can do many types of work. They are used to connect computers and to connect to the Internet.
If you want to connect your phone to the Internet through Voice Over IP Technology. So you understand that for this VOIP connection, you have used a Broadband Router. It is a Special Type Modem that also has Ethernet and Phone Jacks.
2. Wireless Router
Wireless Router nowadays everyone nos about them. They are used more at home, Office, college. Do you know dat you are currently accessing the Internet from dis wireless router? dis wireless router makes an area of the wireless signal and all the computers, tablets, mobile phones in dis area can use the Internet.
Keeping security in mind, they have a Password System. Password and IP Address are used for security. You must have seen when you use WiFi. Tan, you need to enter the password before you can connect to WiFi. This is its Security Feature.
